Sprout (Maple Bank)

Overview
Maple Bank is a neo-bank expanding into first-time investing. As part of a three-person product team, I designed Sprout. An onboarding and investing experience helping young adults start investing confidently through simple, index-fund-focused flows.

Problem
First-time investors frequently drop off due to complex language, unclear risk explanations, and tools designed for experienced users rather than beginners.

Key design decisions

• Replaced financial jargon with a goal-based setup to reduce cognitive load.
• Designed a privacy-first dashboard to lower anxiety around performance and risk.
• Introduced Maple Academy to support lightweight, in-context learning.
• Limited fund exploration to essentials to prevent early decision fatigue.

Target User
First-time investors in their early 20s with limited financial literacy and low confidence around risk and long-term growth.

Delivered a calmer, more transparent onboarding and investing flow, validated through usability testing with first-time investors.
